Office-Based Addiction Treatment

Substance Use Disorder

Substance use disorder (SUD) is a health condition that affects a person’s brain and behavior, leading to their inability to control their use of legal or illegal drugs, alcohol, or medications. If you’re struggling with substance use, it may feel like you’re alone, but you’re not. We have worked with hundreds of people in Clallam County who have shared your struggle. Seeking medical help is a strong step in your journey to health.

Are you pregnant and struggling with SUD? The SUPPORT Clinic is an integrated prenatal (OB) and SUD care clinic. Stop by NOHN’s Downtown Health Center clinic at 240 W. Front Street in Port Angeles any Thursday between 8:30am and 4:00pm to discuss addiction treatment during pregnancy.

Treating Substance Use Disorder

The good news is that there are many effective treatments for substance use – counseling, treatment programs, medications, or a combination of these. Our Office-Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) program works with you to develop a treatment plan based on your individual needs.

If medication is right for you, there are several options. In the case of opioid use, medications attach to opioid receptors in the brain, decreasing opioid cravings, preventing withdrawal symptoms, and blocking the effects of other opioids in the system. In the case of alcohol or tobacco use, there are several different medication options that each work in different ways.

Much like other chronic illnesses such as diabetes and asthma, substance use disorder requires ongoing management. Medication can be a life changing, lifesaving treatment. We’re here to partner with you as you seek to heal and strengthen your brain for a life of recovery and health.
